Polis Chrysochous is a quite beautiful area with a well deserved reputation for offering a certain level of peace and tranquillity, away from the hustle and bustle of other tourist areas. Key to the popularity of Polis is its unique setting with visitors able to relish both magnificent sea views with crystal clear aquamarine waters, and the somewhat rough and unspoilt terrain offered by the Akamas peninsula which acts as a stunning backdrop to the town.
The former is a beach persons dream with ample outdoor facilities offering a wide variety of water sports, not forgetting lazy day boat trips allowing visitors to explore some of our many unspoiled and deserted inlets.
The latter challenges those who relish exploring the many nature trails and paths which have been marked out to ensure visitors benefit from the sights and sounds of the Akamas peninsula. This is an area of natural beauty blessed with marvellous (albeit shy) wildlife and is a wonderful habitat for flora and fauna from wild orchids to white rock roses. Nature trails and paths take walkers into a world of Griffon vultures, Cyprus Scoop Owls, foxes, snakes, lizards, along with over 128 indigenous Cyprus plant species.
The town offers lovely little places to sip wine and eat traditional food, coffee shops where one can relax, sit in the shade and people watch. For those who wish to venture further afield the trip along the coastal road from Polis to Pomos is well worth the car short journey to enjoy unspoiled scenery, with lush vegetation, fields of bananas, and avocados also orderly rows of almond, pistachio, and walnut trees. Just a few kilometers in the other direction is the charming old fishing village of Latchi.
